Day Eleven ... HIC!!

Hello to everyone out there in blogland! After a day to rest, recuperate & make sure we had some clean knickers & jocks (VERY important!) we were off on some fresh adventures today. And since we're in the Adelaide Hills & the Adelaide Hills are best known for producing wine ... We toodled off on a cellar door tour, led by our intrepid guide ... My Aunt. Local knowledge is always an advantage. :0)  First stop ...

Nepanthe ... My Aunt & her Sweetie consider this their local bottle shop, as it is just a short drive from their home. We had a lovely lady guide us through the tasting & she didn't hit me with a bottle. You see ... I'm a bit of a wine barbarian ... I tend to only like sweet, fruity wines & fill my glass with ice ... & this often gives serious wine buffs conniptions. :0) As you can see, this was AFTER the tasting & we adopted some bottles to give them a good home ... Including a couple that I liked. And it wasn't all about the wine ...

This was the view from the cellar door. Tough to take, right?! Next stop ...

... We found a nice boutique gin distillery that offers yummy lunch platters with your choice of a range of gin-based cocktails or a refreshing G & T ... We all chose the gin & tonic option ...

Sparkling, cool, fruity & refreshing on what turned out to be a warm, perfect spring day. And it was accompanied by ...

Fresh bread (some gluten free for my Aunt) , fresh tomatoes, locally made cheese & a selection of cured meats that arrived after the pic. :0) YUMMO! I confess a bottle of gin came home with us, as it is my go-to summer refresher. Thus fortified, we ventured forth again ...

... To find something sweet after lunch. This was more manufactured chocolate & lollies, rather than specialty, but we all found some favourite treats ... Including Honey Bears, one of my faves, that you usually can only get in a party mix ... But no pics ... To protect the guilty! Tee! Hee! Hee! And right next door was ...

... Woodside Cheese, where we were greeted by ...

... A slightly psychedelic bovine! :0) You could be forgiven for thinking you'd tasted one wine too many! :0) We found some yummy cheeses inside ...

... Which got the tick of approval & some came home with us to accompany the wines we'd purchased. We then started our trek home ...

... Via Artwine (you can see we wore out our guide! )

... And last stop of the day was Bird In Hand. We didn't quite buy enough to fill the barrels, but we'll definitely have a nice stockpile for the Christmas party season this year ... & we haven't visited the Barrossa Valley area yet! :0)

So ... We will all sleep well tonight, I think, which is just as well because tomorrow we're heading over to Kangaroo Island, which means an early start to catch the ferry. So ... Do you find yourself with an unexplained craving for a glass of wine after today's update?! :0) Stay tuned for the continuing adventures of two Queenslanders let loose interstate! Tee! Hee! Hee! Til next time ...

BEAR HUGS!

CHEERS,
KRIS

Hmmm!! A glass of wine and some of that cheese with some olives on the side sounds the order of the day after reading of today’s adventures.
Will be waiting to hear about the adventures on Kangaroo Island. Enjoy !!!

It is most import to immerse yourselves in the local culture. What a fabulous day and good on you for supporting the local economy as well as stocking the larder.

I would have loved to be out with you on that little outing. I always get confused when you say 'lollies'. We don't have anything called lollies here. We had 'ice lollies' in England which we call popsicles!! I googled Australian lollies and I see they are candie or sweeties in England!! All very confusing, lol
