Day Three - Glenrowan!

Day three of our adventure dawned cool but sunny. After a coffee & an egg & bacon roll special from the local Jerilderie bakery (YUMMO!) we were on the road again ... Off to see where Ned Kelly grew up ... Glenrowan. We're using a Tomtom to get lost as little as possible on our holiday (we still manage from time to time when we're too busy gawking to see the turn we're supposed to take!) & the navigation aid has obviously worked out we're up for a bit of adventure, as it often sends us off on odd back roads, side roads, dirt roads & in one case we suspect it was a goat track. :0P But boy are we seeing some pretty & interesting views! It pays to take the road less traveled. :0)

So ... After some scenic toodling, we found ourselves in Glenrowan where, as you'd expect, Ned Kelly is very big ...

See?! VERY BIG! :0) We had to limit our time as we still had a four hour trip in front of us to meet up with my brother, so decided to check out the Ned Kelly Museum where there is a replica of the Kelly family home.

Isn't the wisteria gorgeous? There was another yellow-flowered vine that you can just see but I don't know what it was.

The explanation. And inside ...

... Rooms set up as they would have been in Ned Kelly's time. Kitchen ...

... The main bedroom ... Which was super dark & photography was a bit tricky through the mesh across the doorways, but you get a bit of an idea. The displays were very interesting ... & included a lot of things I collect. :0)

The second bedroom. I loved the simple patchwork quilt ... A reminder, when we're fussing about colours & fabrics, that the original patchwork quilts were made from necessity from all available fabrics. :0)

And some gorgeous antique dresses & petticoats were displayed in the second bedroom too. Exquisite lace on clothes never designed to be seen. :0) We then had a look at a few more local shops, chatted to a friendly lady in the local craft collective shop then decided we needed ...

Sustenance! :0) They were literally hot out of the oven & the whipped cream was real, not out of an aerated can. YUMMO! That was lunch. What?!?! We're on holiday! Tee! Hee! Hee!

From there it was back in the car for another four hours to reach Ballarat. Traveling the distances we are at the moment, we've commented often how amazingly diverse the landscape is ... From hills to flat, from dry dusty outback to lush rolling green hills, scrubby plains to forested mountains, paddocks of dusty sheep to fields of canola so brightly yellow that it hurts your eyes. Did I mention we're having a blast?! :0)

Right now, though, I think it's time for a cuppa ... You didn't really think that would change just cos I'm away from home, did you?! :0) Stay tuned for the next instalment of the Mad Meares' Road Trip! :0) Til next time ...

BEAR HUGS!

CHEERS!
